The detail
Silene schafta, commonly known as Autumn Catchfly, is a charming low-growing hardy perennial that produces an abundance of bright pink, star-shaped flowers from late summer well into autumn. Native to the Caucasus region, this resilient little plant thrives in well-drained, rocky soils and is perfectly suited to rockeries, alpine gardens, gravel paths, dry stone walls and the front of borders.
With a neat, mat-forming habit, Silene schafta gradually spreads to create a dense carpet of small, lance-shaped mid-green foliage that becomes smothered in vibrant blooms just as many other plants are fading. It is an excellent choice for adding late-season colour to the garden and is well-loved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
