Knowledge
Frequently asked
When does spring flowering actually start in the UK?
Earlier than you'd think — snowdrops and hellebores can flower in January in milder areas, with the main spring display running March through May.
Should I plant spring flowers in autumn or spring?
Autumn is generally best — bulbs especially need a cold winter to flower properly the following spring, and container-grown perennials get a head start on rooting.
Do spring-flowering plants come back every year?
Yes, almost all of them — most are hardy perennials or bulbs that return year after year, often spreading and naturalising as they go.
