Knowledge
Frequently asked
How much sun is 'full sun'?
Six or more hours of direct sunlight a day — typically south-facing or west-facing aspects in UK gardens. These plants will tolerate a bit less, but they flower best in maximum light.
Will I need to water sun-loving plants a lot?
During the first 4–6 weeks of establishment, yes. After that, most sun-lovers in this collection are drought-tolerant; many actually prefer drier conditions.
Are sun-loving plants good for pollinators?
Most, yes. Full-sun positions attract more bees and butterflies than shady ones, and the classic sun-loving plants — lavender, salvia, nepeta, scabious — are some of the best nectar sources in the UK.
