Shade Lovers
Shade is a feature, not a problem — once you plant for it.
Our shade-lovers collection celebrates the plants that earn their place in dappled light or full shade: textural ferns, dramatic hostas, jewel-coloured heucheras, and woodland-edge perennials that bring colour to the corners other plants ignore. Hand-grown in Yorkshire, ready for your darkest spots.

Frequently asked
What counts as shade?
Partial shade gets 3–6 hours of direct sun a day. Full shade gets less than 3 hours. Dappled shade is filtered sunlight under a tree canopy. Each product page lists the preferred light level.
Will these plants flower in shade?
Many will, though usually less profusely than in sun. Shade-tolerant plants are often grown for foliage as much as flowers — hostas, ferns, heucheras and tiarella all earn their place on leaf alone.
Do they need more water?
Generally less than sun-lovers (less evaporation), but check soil moisture regularly during dry spells, especially under trees where roots compete for water.
