Mediterranean Garden
Mediterranean gardens work surprisingly well in much of the UK — especially in south-facing borders and well-drained soil.
Gravel, silver foliage, the scent of lavender on a hot afternoon. This collection brings together the plants that bring that look: silver-leaved aromatics, sun-loving flowering shrubs, hardy lavenders and the structural classics that hold the style together year-round.

Knowledge
Frequently asked
Will Mediterranean plants survive UK winters?
Most of the hardy classics — lavender, rosemary, salvia, ceanothus — yes, especially in well-drained soil. Wet winters kill more Mediterranean plants than cold ones.
What soil do Mediterranean plants prefer?
Free-draining, slightly alkaline if possible, low to moderate fertility. If you've got heavy clay, add grit and sharp sand to the planting hole.
Do they need a lot of watering?
Only during establishment. Once mature, most Mediterranean plants are drought-tolerant and actively prefer slightly dry soil.
